Trauma-Informed Yoga Summer Sessions
This summer, Me & You sponsored a series of Trauma-Informed Yoga classes taught by Michelle Nguyen, one of our Board members, and Mona Alvero, an Ambassador. Select students in Forest Oak Middle School's summer program, were provided mats, tote bags, and other materials necessary for the sessions.
"Trauma Informed Yoga is a yoga class that helps with stress regulation through mindfulness, body awareness, and connection of breath. Studies show that about 15% to 43% of girls and 14% to 43% of boys go through at least one trauma. Of those children and teens who have had a trauma, 3% to 15% of girls and 1% to 6% of boys develop PTSD. These classes serve as a valuable resource to vulnerable students. They gain access to coping skills to help mitigate recurring trauma, as well as getting them better equipped for resiliency." - Michelle, Yoga Instructor
"It was a pleasure to volunteer with Me & You for the Trauma-Informed Yoga classes at Forest Oak Middle School. Michelle and I especially loved creating a safe environment for our students and witnessing how they blossomed week after week in their yoga practices.
The students and staff were beyond grateful for us and expressed how Trauma-Informed Yoga made a positive impact in their Summer and into the following school year ahead." - Mona, Yoga Instructor
